Teras to nominate Mawan as potential candidate

BAU: Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) will recommend its president Tan Sri William Mawan as one of potential candidates to be considered by top BN leadership for the coming election.

Its deputy president Datuk Peter Nansian confirmed that their president would be among the names recommended to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem as state BN chairman to make the final decision.

When asked why the party would include Mawan when the chief minister had said that he would not nominate any member of parliament for the next state election, Nansian said he believed the statement applied only to PBB members.

“I believe he was only referring to PBB being president of the party,” he told reporters after the launching of a compost promotion programme at Research and Development Movement of Singai Sarawak (Redeems) centre near here yesterday.

He added that the party would recommend its winnable candidates to the BN top leadership for consideration and endorsement.

“This is due to the fact that anyone who contests in the election using BN banner must have his/her candidacy endorsed and approved by the BN top leadership,” he said.

Adenan told a media conference recently that he would not nominate an MP as candidate in the coming state election, which some people assumed he was referring to Mawan since he is the only MP and also an assemblyman.

Mawan is the MP for Saratok and also Pakan assemblyman.-Borneo Post
