Choose leaders wisely, Nanta reminds constituents

KAPIT: The people here have been told to choose their leaders wisely.

In giving this reminder, Kapit MP advised them to choose people who have contributed and assisted in getting development for them.

“Choosing a leader is just like choosing a football team where we need to look into the various aspects including the capability and skill of the players, their strategy and teamwork as well as track record.

“Likewise in choosing a leader we must choose a leader who has contributed and assisted us the most to enable us to move forward for more development that can benefit us in the future,” the Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister said.

He was speaking when officiating at the ‘Leaders Meet the People’ gathering organised by the Special Affairs Department (Jasa) Kapit branch at the 32-door Rumah Mathew Binar Abon at Sungai Yong, about 20 minutes journey from here on Monday evening.

On a related matter, Nanta pointed out that the BN government under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had introduced many good policies that benefited the people.

“After six months of assuming the post of Prime Minister on October 30, 2009 he sent a delegation to Song led by the then Minister for Rural and Regional Development Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal who announced the much-awaited Kapit/Song/Kanowit road project which is now under construction. The 80km road from Kapit/Song to Majau in Kanowit is expected to be completed by 2018,” he said.

He added that when the prime minister first visited Kapit on April 14, 2013 he announced grants of RM5 million for the water treatment plant extension project for Kapit, RM4 million for the longboat landing facility, RM1 million for the funeral parlour and RM2 million for Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Muhibbah.

He recalled that Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, now opposition leader, did not respond to any request from local leaders for development in Kapit when he visited the town as deputy prime minister in July 1995.

Thus, the people should not vote for the candidates aligned to Anwar in any election, he added.

Later, Nanta presented a grant amounting to RM25,000 to the Village Security And Development Committee (JKKK) of Rumah Kayan Nyelang at Nanga Dia, Batang Rajang.

Jasa director general Datuk Dr Mohd Puad Zarkashi, Sarawak Jasa director Hassan Busu, political secretaries to the chief minister Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Jefferson Jamit Unyat and Maurice Giri and Deputy Resident Zul Usup were among those present.- Borneo Post
