PRS Youth chastised for split in Dayak political parties allegation

KUCHING: The Youth Wing of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) is disappointed with Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Youth publicity chief Bit Surang for alleging that the Barisan Nasional (BN) government supports the split in Dayak political parties.

Its deputy information chief Henry Kilah Talek said Bit had in fact taken Assistant Minister of Public Utilities who is also PBB secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi’s statement on ‘One Dayak’ spirit out of context.

“PBB Youth wing believes that the split in the Dayak political parties is not because of the Barisan National government, as there is no leader in the government who wants the component parties to be weak and divided.

“PBB Youth wing also wishes to express support to Dayak leaders like Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi for his sincere effort in trying to unite the Dayak community under the ‘One Dayak’ spirit,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Henry said the statement made by Dr Rundi when the latter graced the Borneo Dayak Cultural Festival 2015 in Sibu was in the “cultural context and not merely politics”.

He was responding to Bit’s recent statement, in which the latter reminded Dr Rundi that ‘One Dayak’ spirit would not be attainable if the Dayak political parties were forever split and that the BN government supported the split.

Henry said although Sarawak is a multi-racial society, the people are united despite their political differences, simply because they have learnt to respect one another, especially their leaders.

“We in PBB Youth wing will always stand by our president who is also the Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, and his able leadership in developing Sarawak.”

He urged all youths to learn from history and avoid making accusations that would further split the spirit within Barisan Nasional.

“At our BN Youth level, we should show our unity and give our full support to our state or federal BN leadership and not simply make any statement that can jeopardise the trust of the rakyat.”

Henry said the point was that PRS Youth should not have openly criticised the BN government, as any differences among the youth wings of BN component parties could be discussed within the state BN Youth Council.- Borneo Post
