MARUDI: The Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) Mulu Youth wing pro tem committee is all for SPDP Youth state chairman councillor Robert Ayu to be Barisan Nasional’s (BN) candidate for Mulu during the next state election.
The state SPDP Youth wing had earlier called on the BN leadership to nominate Robert for the Mulu seat.
SPDP Mulu Youth wing pro tem deputy chairman Jimmy Tinggang said in a press statement that Robert is the most winnable candidate for the new constituency.
“He is liked by everyone and especially the younger generation. He will be a very good representative for the younger generation. He knows their needs.
“Even while helping SPDP candidates in other areas like Marudi, he is very popular among the younger generation. We know he is a good leader and he walks the talk,” said Jimmy.
Jimmy, who issued the statement on behalf of pro tem chairman Harris Peter — who is overseas — also urged SPDP to stick to its rule that no candidate outside the party be selected as the candidate in Mulu or any other seat.
“We have members who are qualified to be our candidates. Most of all, we don’t want history to be repeated.
“We have just built up our party to what it is now after being in turmoil because of disloyalty from candidates outside the party,” he said.
He said SPDP should pick party members who sink and swim with the party. - Borneo Post
