Sng adamant in contesting Bukit Goram

KUCHING: Sarawak Workers Party (SWP) president Larry Sng is adamant in standing at Bukit Goram despite a possible challenge from PBB.

The reason: The Sng family is deep-rooted in the area. Sng believed that although he was not with the ruling coalition anymore, he could still deliver projects and services to the people as proven by the family’s long service to the various communities there.

“I have served the people here for two terms (2001-2011) and my father before me (1991-2001) and his father before him (1963-1968),” said Sng in a press statement received here yesterday.

He said even when the family was with Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) which was then in the opposition, his family delivered projects to many longhouses and associations in the constituency.

“We funded the construction of Rumah Tubak, Nanga Ensilai, when it was burnt down in the 90s and together with the people, made it the best longhouse in Sarawak.

“We also donated RM200,000 from our own funds towards the construction of SJK (C) Hock Lam School when they needed a new building block.”

He also said when he was no more an elected representative he had donated to over 60 longhouse and associations in Kapit since 2014.

“We continue to provide our education fund (RM1,000,000) and assistance towards the sick and families of the dead. This is proof that even if we are not in the government we can still deliver projects and services to the people and for the people. Make no mistake the people want us to continue to serve them.”

In the face of possible PBB’s challenge in Bukit Goram, Sng said he would not give up and surrender the seat to them.

“Those in PBB have been my friends and some are still my friends in politics. But I cannot give up and surrender my home town of Kapit (Bukit Goram) and supporters because of that,” said Sng

Bukit Goram is the new constituency carved out of Baleh and Pelagus seats where Sng used to be the assemblyman.

As Baleh and Pelagus are both allocated to PRS, Bukit Goram is expected to be claimed by the party (PBB). PRS president Tan Sri Dr James Masing, to the surprise of many, however, gave up Bukit Goram for Samalaju.

Rumours have been rife that PBB will take Bukit Goram and a political secretary to the chief minister Jefferson Jamit Unyat is said to be their potential candidate.-Borneo Post
