KUCHING: There was no hijacking involved during the BERSIH 4.0 rally on DAP’s part, said Member of Parliament for Bandar Kuching, Chong Chieng Jen at a press conference at DAP headquarters here yesterday.
Chong who is State Assemblyman for Kota Sentosa added that DAP speakers who had voiced out their opinions during the BERSIH 4.0 rally were only focusing on the rally’s objectives.
“Therefore, we did not contribute in whatever way to the impromptu cancellation of the assembly as it is affiliated to the many hiccups experienced by the organising team,” said Chong.
Chong also deemed that the usage of political party logo on BERSIH T-shirt was not a big issue as it only reflected the wearer’s political stand.
“Even if a BN supporter were to print a BN logo on their shirts, it is not an issue because what is more important is that we support the cause together,” Chong insisted.
Chong added that the rally was a success in Kuching as it was ranked second highest in the number of participants among BERSIH 4.0 assemblies nationwide.
“Some 6,000 people gathered at the Song Kheng Hai rugby field the other day and the number was almost the same during the Sarawak for Sarawakians (S4S) rally on 22 July,” said Chong.-Sarawak Tribune
