UPP education fund for all — Andrew

SIBU: The Education Fund of the United People’s Party (UPP) launched on Aug 21 is open to all races in the state, UPP Bawang Assan Bumiputra unit chairman Andrew Shilling Banggit said yesterday.

He said application forms were available at all UPP branch offices.

In Sibu, forms are available at UPP Bawang Assan, UPP Dudong, UPP Bukit Assek, UPP Pelawan and Bumiputera unit of UPP Bawang Assan branch.

“This UPP education fund is open to all irrespective of race and religious belief,” he told a press conference here yesterday.

Others present at the press conference were Temenggong Stanley Geramong, Pemanca James Semilan, Penghulu Jeffery Sut and Penghulu Richard Ampi.

The fund was launched by the Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud in conjunction with the party’s first anniversary celebration.

Corporate organisations and generous donors contributed a total of RM30 million to the fund.

Andrew, who is also a political secretary to the chief minister, said the fund was one of UPP’s community projects to assist Sarawakians.

“The targeted group are students from the financially-disadvantaged families, particularly those who excel in their study,” he added.

Applicants should attach copies of their and their parents’ identity cards, a copy of academic results, letter of offer to institution of higher learning, parents’ salary slips and other related documents to their application forms.

“For parents or guardians who do not have salary statements, they have to obtain a letter of confirmation signed by a community leader,” he said.
