‘Independence means developed, peaceful Malaysia’

ASAJAYA: The present generation should interpret the meaning of national independence into ensuring the country is developed, peaceful and prosperous

Assistant Minister of Social Development (Youth) Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the struggle of today’s generation
might not be the same as their forefathers during the pre independence era, but their (present generation) aim was the same, to see unity among Malaysians and a progressive country.

“Our forefathers have struggled and sacrificed for independence for the betterment of the present generations. We, as the present generation who inherit and benefit from their struggle must continue to ‘fight’ to ensure unity, peace, prosperous and the betterment of the future generation,” he said when closing an ‘Independence Month Celebration at Kampung Sambir yesterday.

Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang was also present.

Karim, who is also Asajaya assemblyman, also launched the village logo at the village multipurpose hall.

He also emphasized that education played important role in the country’s development.

As such, parents must ensure their children were well educated so they could contribute to the country’s development.

He said Malaysia had progressed a lot since it achieved independence but admitted there were still a lot more to do.

“Even Kampung Sambir has gone through a lot of changes and development such as roads and communication development, which have benefited the villagers.

“The surrounding areas such as Asajaya and Kota Samarahan are now developing rapidly and have changed the people’s way of life,” he said.

He said who would have thought that Samarahan, being far away from the city many years ago, would now have a large shopping mall and another one coming up, and a multi-storey building like Salcra Building.

Hundreds of villagers witnessed the closing ceremony which included stage performances and patriotic songs performance.-Borneo Post
