KUCHING: Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh welcomes the chief Minister’s recent announcement that Unified Examination Certificate (UEC) holders with a pass at SPM level can directly take up diploma programmes at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) Sarawak branch without going through Unit Pusat Universiti.
“This is a welcome news, very good for Chinese independent schools. This will be an encouragement and also an inspiration to all the students because this is an additional opening for them,” he said when met by reporters here yesterday.
Wong, who is also Minister of Local Government and Community Development, believed the new move was accomplished through special arrangement.
“I think this is done through special arrangement because we are talking about autonomous rights and so on. The chief minister must have talked to them and was given a special arrangement. Sarawak for Sarawakians, that sort of basis.”
Asked whether the new policy would take immediate effect, Wong said: “That one I cannot comment.”-Borneo Post
