Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said the projects included upgrading of roads, longhouse roads, drainage, bridges and jetties.
“All the projects had been implemented by agencies such as Public Works Department, Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) and Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC).”
Wong who is also minister for local government and community development said this at a leaders-meet-the-people event at Rh Unjah Besh, Sungai Melanggan near here yesterday.
He had earlier officiated at several road projects costing almost RM1 million at Rh Nuing, Sungai Tebellian, Rh Siah, Sungai Apong and Rh Unjah at Sungai Melanggan.
Present were political secretary to the chief minister Andrew Shilling Banggit, Temenggung Stanley Geramong, Pemanca James Semilan, Penghulu Jeffery Sut, Penghulu Richard Ampi and Tuai Rumah Unjah Besh.
According to Wong, the government through SMC was building an Urban Transformation Centre (UTC) at level eight to 10 of parking bays at Sibu Central Market.
Various federal and state agencies such as Resident’s Office, Sibu District Office, Sibu Water Board, Sesco, Treasury Department, National Registration Department, Immigration, Road Transport Department, 1Malaysia Clinic and others will open up office at the UTC.
“All these will provide service to the people from morning to 9pm daily except public holidays,” the Bawang Assan assemblyman said of the UTC.-Borneo Post
