Pelawan rep files motion for safeguarding Sarawakian rights for coming DUN sitting

SIBU: Pelawan assemblyman David Wong has filed a motion on safeguarding Sarawakian rights under Part XIIA of the Federal Constitution for the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting next month.

He said this includes using English as an official language in Sarawak. This is in support of Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s announcement that English would be used alongside Bahasa Malaysia for official correspondence.

“The people should support and defend the position of our Chief Minister on the use of English as the official language of Sarawak,” he said in a press statement.

“I therefore urge all the state assembly members from across the political divide to stand united to support this motion. Those who obstruct the passing of this motion will have to be answerable to all Sarawakians.”

Wong called on the DUN Speaker and Adenan not to reject the motion.

“There is a growing sentiment among Sarawakians that we have not been treated fairly by the federal government and our rights enshrined under the Federal Constitution have been eroded over the past 50 years,” he said.

He called on the state government to help resolve and safeguard the rights of Sarawak as enshrined in the Federal Constitution.-Borneo Post
