Community leaders disappointed with PKR man

MARUDI: Community leaders here are upset with state Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) chief, BaKelalan assemblyman Baru Bian for his statement against State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar.

Baru on Wednesday slammed Asfia for saying that the government has the right to sack errant community leaders.

According to Tuai Rumah Jampang Kantan, all community leaders in Sungai Peking, Marudi supported Asfia’s statement.

“Community leaders serve as the eyes and ears of the government in relaying down government policies and at the same time, informing the people of the government’s development plans,” he said.

Tuai Rumah Wat Ukat agreed that community leaders must reach out to the people and inform them of the government’s plans and programmes to uplift the people’s standard of living.

“Of course community leaders must support the government’s policies,” he said.

For Tuai Rumah Marayang Janin, community leaders who did not support the government of the day should just resign. He said logically community leaders were the government’s agents on the ground to serve the community in their respective areas.

“We are very disappointed by Baru’s comments as community leaders appointed by the government must serve with dedication to the people and not have their own political interests,” he added.

Tuai Rumah Matius Depa also urged community leaders who were unhappy with their work scope to resign as they were chosen to serve as a bridge between the government and the people.

Tuai Rumah Marcus Minggu Bala added that the government of the day brought about development and plans for the community’s interests.-Borneo Post
