A ‘Rose’ for the coming state election

MIRI: Non-governmental organisation (NGO) Rise of Sarawak Efforts (Rose)—which claims to be championing for free and fair elections as well as rural transformation – is training members of the public to be polling and counting agents (Paca) for the coming state election.

Its spokeswoman Ann Teo claimed that their monthly workshops had so far trained about 140 individuals for these roles since last July.

“Those aged 21 years and above are eligible for our trainings. Upon completion, they can volunteer to help any candidate or political party of their choosing, so long as the candidates or parties promote free and fair election,” she said yesterday.

Rose is embarking on a state-wide roadshow to conduct Paca workshops for those interested.

The trainings are conducted by volunteers and everyone is free to attend, irrespective of race, religion or political affiliations.

Their next workshop here will be on March 5 at the Students Centre in Jalan Brighton.

“The workshop is free. Those interested should enrol by March 3,” said Teo. - Borneo Post.
