When visiting the victims at their village recently, he handed over a cheque for RM15,000 from NADI to each family to lessen their financial burden and sufferings.
Accompanying him were his wife Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud, PBB Bukit Sari deputy branch chairman Awangku Jinal Pengiran Jawa, Lawas district officer Hussaini Hakim and Limbang Division Land and Survey Department superintendent Arni Abdul Rahman.
Awang Tengah also called for a short prayer to be recited for the soul of the deceased victim, 90-year-old Tiamah Montol, who was burnt to death in her wooden house during the tragic incident.
As both he and his wife were abroad during the incident, their personal donations to the families were handed over by PBB Bukit Sari Youth leader councillor Semie Nasip on their behalf.
Tiamah’s son, Sulaiman @ Alias Murah, in his 50s, managed to escape with burns on his head and was treated at Lawas Hospital while two other family members in the house managed to flee to safety.
He told the minister that he would have to rebuild his house at a new location.
Awang Tengah told the Land and Survey Department and Lawas District Office to make the necessary arrangements to assist the fire victims to rebuild their houses without delay.-Utusan Borneo
