MP brings joy to longhouse constituents


BINTULU: Bintulu MP Dato Seri Tiong King Sing has pledged grants, ranging from RM10,000 to RM50,000 each, for seven longhouses in Sebauh, which is under his constituency.

Tiong, who ws accompanied by officers from his service centre, first travelled by boat to Rumah Bundan, where the ‘tuai rumah’ (chieftains) from Rumah Francis and Rumah George also gathered to attend the meeting during which they discussed issues and problems in their areas.

It was there that the chieftains requested for grants to repair the jetties and plankwalks at their respective longhouses. They also asked for access road connecting their settlements with the nearby oil palm plantation. Tiong then promised grants of RM20,000 to Rumah Bundan and RM15,000 to Rumah Francis and Rumah George, to be given next year.  The MP thanked the chieftains and local community leaders for giving him a chance to meet his constituents and to better understand their problems and needs.

“As your Barisan Nasional (BN) MP, I am entrusted by the government to distribute projects and assistance directly to my constituents. To do that, I have to move actively on the ground to understand your needs and assist you in solving your problems,” he said.

Tiong and his team then moved on to Rumah Nompang where he also met the headman of Rumah Lawai and representatives of the longhouse. He pledged an allocation of RM25,000 to Rumah Nompang for repair works on their longhouse and plankwalk, and RM35,000 to Rumah Lawai for wiring works and repairs on their generator set.

Tiong also visited Rumah Vincent in Ulu Sebauh where headmen from Rumah Bundau and Rumah Meta were also present.
At the meeting , Tiong – also SPDP president – pledged RM10,000 to the four-door Rumah Vincent and RM20,000 to Rumah Bundau and Rumah Meta for upgrading works on their facilities.

Tiong’s final stop for the day was at Rumah Jenang, where he and his team were received with a ‘miring’ (blessing) ceremony upon arrival. The 23-door Rumah Jenang is being rebuilt, while the chieftain of Rumah Jenang requested for floor tiling and curtains for each unit. Tiong responded by announcing RM50,000 for them to purchase the building materials.-Borneo Post
