RM7.85 mln spent on Bawang Assan projects

SIBU: A total of RM7.85 million has been spent on projects under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) or Quick Win Project in Bawang Assan constituency so far this year.

The amount, according to its assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, did not include the RM18 million to upgrade Penasuh-Batu Burak Road which would begin soon.

“As their people’s representative, I will continue to do my best to develop and further upgrade the constituency for the benefit of all the residents,” he said when officiating at the opening of a family day organised by Sibu Longhouse Chiefs’ Association (SLCA) held at 1Malaysia Cultural Village in Bukit Aup recently.

Wong, who is also Second Finance Minister and Minister of Local Government and Community Development, said the RM7.85 million involved works to build and upgrade roads in the resettlement schemes of Bawang Assan, Sungai Tebellian, Sungai Melanggan, Rantau Panjang, Nanga Tutus, Sungai Sebedil, Passai, Sungai Bidut, Sungai Engkalat, Kampung Bungan, Sungai Rassau and Sungai Pinang.

“Additionally, a sum of RM4 million has been allocated to build a new concrete bridge in Bawang Assan, which will be completed shortly.

“This shows the Barisan Nasional (BN) is able to bring infrastructure development and facilities to the people and uplift their standard of living.

“As such, I hope all of you are ready to give your votes to BN in the next state election,” he said.

On the election, Wong, who is United People’s Party (UPP) president, urged party members, especially those in the party’s Bawang Assan Bumiputera Unit to be prepared and take strategic action plan for the election campaign.

“We can start by visiting the villages, longhouses and individuals’ homes.

“Be familiar with the government’s economic transformation programmes, development plans and policies.

“Only then will you be able to answer the people’s questions during your visits or campaign.

“We must be able to garner the support of the local residents to support UPP and BN candidates,” he said.

At the function, Wong announced a grant of RM10,000 for SLCA to run its activities.-Borneo Post
