MIRI: Lambir constituency needs a police station and a polyclinic to cater to its increasing population and not a fire station as reported in the newspapers yesterday.
In making this clarification, Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat hoped that a police station would be built either in Taman Tunku or near Miri Airport and the 1Malaysia clinic there be upgraded to a polyclinic to meet the needs of the people due to the increasing number of housing estates and commercial buildings in Taman Tunku.
“It’s a misleading report as the ministry concerned have not given a green light to construct a polyclinic and I request for a police station not a fire station,” he told The Borneo Post recently.
According to Ripin, in his interview with an RTM broadcaster during the presentation of Raya goodies to orphans at the Hamidah Peryatim Complex on Saturday he did not say that the government would be setting up a polyclinic in Lambir constituency.
He clarified that he only mentioned that the authority concerned should set up a police station at Taman Tunku or near Miri Airport to cater to the increasing population there.
He said he did mention that the 1Malaysia clinic located in Taman Tunku should be upgraded to a polyclinic to meet the needs of the people there.
On another matter, he called on the people of Lambir to continue working together with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, who had proven to be effective in championing the people’s interest regardless of religion and race.
At the same time, Ripin who is a political secretary to the chief minister advised Muslims going back to their villages to be extra careful and alert to avoid accidents and ensure that their homes are secured against thieves.
“With Hari Raya approaching, I hope the people will celebrate in a moderate scale and continue the concept of open house during the festival,” he said.
