KUCHING: Two Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) Members of Parliament, Anthony Nogeh (Mas Gading) and Anyie Ngau (Baram), would have stood a better chance of being appointed to the federal cabinet in Tuesday’s reshuffle if they had joined Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras).
Teras Bukit Assek protem branch chairman Cr Pasang Ngelambai and Meluan branch chairman Jerry Clement who are both former SPDP members said yesterday although Nogeh and Anyie had chosen to remain in SPDP they had hoped that their former leaders would get into the new cabinet.
They said that since Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak the Barisan Nasional (BN) national chairman was a good friend of Teras president Tan Sri William Mawan, anyone recommended by Mawan to the federal cabinet would stand a good chance to be appointed.
Pasang added that the two MPs should join Teras to have any chance of getting appointed into the federal cabinet in future.
“I think their chance of getting appointed would be better if they were in Teras. We may not be in the same party anymore but I still think they are deputy minister materials with their experience in leadership and administration.”
“Tan Sri Mawan would like any one of them or both to be in the cabinet. I believe Tan Sri could whisper to the Prime Minister anytime over the matter. Of course the appointment is the prerogative of the BN chairman (Najib).”
Both Jerry and Pasang claimed that Nogeh and Anyi were still their good friends and they did not mind to work with them in the BN spirit or even under the BN-Plus formula mooted by State Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem, who is also the state BN chief.
“I was hoping that one of them would be appointed but I was also not surprised of the conclusion. However there is always another round of cabinet reshuffle and I hope Nogeh and Anyie will be members of Teras by then. Moreover the Prime Minister is a good friend of Tan Sri Mawan,” said Jerry.
He added that Mawan would not have accepted a federal cabinet posting if he had been offered one by Najib because he was already a senior state minister, Social Development Minister, Saratok MP and Pakan assemblyman apart from being the Sarawak Dayak National Union president.
Mawan is the only Teras MP while SPDP has three. Apart from Nogeh and Anyi, the other is Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing who is SPDP president and the Prime Minister’s Special Envoy to East Asia.-Borneo Post
