Upgrading of Damai road to be done under 11MP – Abg Johari

SANTUBONG: Works to upgrade the road to Damai in Santubong will be carried out in the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP).

Tourism Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said the project which was proposed about three years ago would be implemented as planned.

“The road here (Jalan Sultan Tengah) will be upgraded to become dual-carriage way that will provide easy access to Damai from Kuching and direct to Kuching International Airport (KIA).

“The project will change and develop the area along the peninsula of Santubong, thus further developing and benefiting the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF),” he told a press conference yesterday at the Board Room of Sarawak Cultural Village (SCV).

The press conference was to announce that the RWMF organised by Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) will be held on Aug 7 to 9 at SCV.

Abang Johari, who is Housing Minister, said travelling to Damai would be more comfortable once the road project is completed, while the new Pasir Panjang Resort will greatly benefit.

He assured that the potential of SCV and RWMF as tourist products would be further tapped upon the completion of the road upgrading project

The minister also told reporters that a water theme park would be developed by the private sector in the Santubong peninsula,
while a convention centre and hotel would also be built in the area.

Others present at the press conference were Ministry of Tourism permanent secretary Datu Ik Pahon Joyik and STB director of corporate affairs and events Angelina Bateman.-Borneo Post
