Mega bridge project in Baram gets govt nod

MIRI: The much-awaited bridge to connect Long Lama bazaar with Tutoh and Apoh regions as well as surrounding areas would soon become a reality with the launch of the mega project on July 30.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem is expected to officiate at the launch of the project, which is estimated to cost more than RM100 million.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said the people in Baram had been waiting for the bridge for years because they had been depending on ferry to cross the Baram River.

“As the people’s representative for the area, I have been asking for the bridge since 2011 and only now under the leadership of Adenan that our voice asking for the bridge is finally heard,” he said here yesterday.

Dennis said PBB Telang Usan, in particular, thanked Adenan for acceding to their request, adding that he believed the bridge would boost tourism, economy as well the living standard of the people in Baram.

“The people of Baram who use the Long Lama ferry to cross Baram river are also grateful to Adenan, in that they now need only pay RM1 per crossing instead of the RM 15 fee previously,” said Dennis.
