Matu Chinese never sidelined by BN govt — Jemoreng rep

SIBU: The Barisan Nasional (BN) government has never neglected the Chinese in Matu, despite them being a minority community in the district.

Jemoreng assemblyman Abu Seman Jahwie assured them that the welfare of the people had always been the coalition’s priority.

“The BN government is a caring government; one that looks into the welfare of people from all walks of life, irrespective of backgrounds,” he said after witnessing the swearing-in of three Chinese community leaders at Matu District’s Office yesterday.

The new appointees are Penghulu Ngo Moh Huat, Kapitan Kueh Chiew Peng and Kapitan Lim Sek Khai

Abu Seman, who is also political secretary to the chief minister, advised the three to continue serving as the link between the community and the government.

“You are the representatives of your community and by being that, the government would be able to obtain feedback and suggestions from your community. We can also be more understanding about their concern,” he said.

Moreover, Abu Seman also encouraged the local Chinese to work closely with other communities, adding that strong solidarity and harmony between them were vital towards ensuring the continuity of economic prosperity and development.

“Respect each other’s culture and beliefs – this is key to preserving racial unity.” The assemblyman was accompanied by Matu District Officer Abdul Samat Mohd Shariff at the ceremony.
