State PKR still undecided on seats target, says chief

SIBU: State PKR has yet to finalise the number of seats it is eyeing for in the next state election.
Ba Kelalan assemblyman Baru Bian, who is the party’s state chief, said the matter was still under negotiation.
“Out of the 11 new constituencies, we will contest in six. We will discuss (on the matter) with our alliance partners DAP and Pakatan Harapan over the next two weeks,” he told reporters after launching of PKR’s ‘RM26 For Change—Central Zone’ at a hotel here yesterday.
Baru said their alliance would be prepared in facing any candidate fielded by Barisan Nasional (BN).
Meanwhile, campaign chairperson Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew said the donation programme was set up to fund the state PKR in preparation for the election.
According to her, shortage of funding was among the key factors that caused the party to lose many seats in previous state and general elections.
“We have limited resources for the election campaigns, especially in the rural areas where the voters are scattered over large areas. We don’t have rich donors from Arab (countries).
“Still, we believe Malaysians who are eager for change would help us achieve our vision.
“We strongly believe that PKR, as a multi-racial party, play an important role in bringing a change for Malaysia and I am sure that we could bring about greater development if we — the alliance — became the government,” she stated.
Tan pointed out that PKR needed resources to implement programmes and projects in the rural areas, and also to enhance its election machinery by
