PAS adopting Umno’s dirty politics to slander DAP, says Guan Eng

DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng says PAS should focus any criticism regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) on Umno, not DAP, as the Malay ruling party had initiated the deal. – The Malaysian Insider file pic, January 25, 2016.DAP today accused PAS of adopting Umno's "dirty politics of slander", after the Islamist party said DAP supported the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA)

Its secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said his party had reiterated several times its opposition to the TPPA because of its possible impact on Malaysians as well as small-scale businesses.

Yet PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang said in a video recently that DAP backed the trade pact because the "Chinese control trade in Malaysia".

"Malaysians would expect such misrepresentation of DAP's position or a racially-tinged statement from Umno," said Lim in a statement today.
"For a PAS leader to indulge in such baseless untruths shows that PAS is now not only cooperating with Umno but also adopting Umno's dirty politics of slander against DAP."

The Bagan MP said the TPPA was not about race or religion but its economic impact on Malaysians.

Lim also said PAS should focus its criticism on Umno, since the Malay ruling party had initiated the deal.

He added that PAS, as the so-called "advisor" of the Barisan Nasional (BN) government, should also explain why it had failed to advise Putrajaya against inking the deal.

"Using Hadi’s logic, then Umno must be Chinese too for initiating the passing of the TPPA in Parliament.

"Why then does Hadi continue to work with Umno and even advise the BN federal government?"

On Friday, Lim said DAP federal lawmakers would join MPs from Pakatan Harapan parties PKR and Parti Amanah Negara in voting against the TPPA when it is debated at a special parliamentary sitting next week.

Since its fallout with DAP last year, PAS has been in sync with Umno against the Chinese-dominated party.-Malaysian Insider
