KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has instructed Yayasan Sarawak to assist students affected by the suspension of Civil Service Department (JPA) bursaries.
In a press statement issued by press secretary to the chief minister Ambrose Cheng today, Adenan said that all affected students are welcome to present their petition to the state government.
“Yes, we will help the students. I have given instruction to Yayasan Sarawak to find ways and means on how best to help them,” said Adenan.
Students have previously voiced their concerns regarding the sudden suspension of the bursaries in a recent news report, with many having their hopes dashed by the announcement.
On another matter pertaining to the focus of the courts of Sabah and Sarawak on cases related to environment and tourism as published in the news, the chief minister said he appreciated the concern of the courts regarding the menace of wildlife trafficking and environmental degradation.
He welcomed Chief Justice Tan Sri Richard Malanjum’s ideas to make judges and judicial officers in both states conscious of the welfare of the environment, wildlife and tourism industry and the need to dispose of related cases expeditiously.
“Splendid ideas. I will discuss with the chief justice on how to go about it because there are legal implications involved,” Adenan added in the statement.-Borneo Post
