Sarawak Houses from Punau to Garung to enjoy treated water supply

KUCHING: Houses along Jalan Puncak Borneo from Kpg Punau upwards that have yet to enjoy treated water supply will soon enjoy the amenity, says Assistant Minister of Public Health Datuk Dr Jerip Susil.

He said the RM1.5 million project to lay the main pipe from Punau to Garung had been completed.

According to him, it was a matter of implementation since all the applications were now with Public Works Department (JKR) divisional office.

“We hope it will be very soon because the contractor has handed over the project to JKR headquarters while the JKR divisional office has all the application forms,” the Bengoh assemblyman told reporters yesterday.

Earlier, he witnessed the handing-over of official documents to Tebedu, Siburan and Padawan sub-district offices in the presence of Kuching Resident Shukarmin Chasemon and Kuching District Officer Ibrahim Kipli.

Dr Jerip also said the 120 doors at Kampung Bunuk, also in Jalan Puncak Borneo, which had yet to have electricity supply, would be connected soon.

He said the RM500,000 allocation under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) to the village was now with the Resident office.

“The money (for the electricity supply to the 120 doors) is already there and very soon they will have the supply,” he said.

He also told reporters that he would seriously look into the infrastructure problem like roads faced by a few villages in upper Padawan. Among the villages are Kiding, Sadir, Sebukar, Perang, Assum and Kekas.

He said the people in area would not progress without proper roads to link the villages.

“It will be a challenge for me to have the few villages in my area with proper roads and which I will seriously look into,” he said. - Borneo Post
