New constituencies to boost rural devt, says PBB Murum chief

BELAGA: The recently approved new state constituencies will accelerate development in rural areas such as Belaga, which has now been divided into the state constituencies of Belaga and Murum.

Murum covers areas such as Sungai Asap, Koyan River, Murum River and from Tubau River until Jelalong River.

Newly-elected Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Murum chairman Michael Mujah Lihan said a huge area such as Murum needed to be developed in line with Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s focus on rural development.

“Even though the areas such as Tubau River and Jelalong River have been added to Murum under the administration of Belaga District Office, both the areas remain under the administration of the office in Tubau,” he said during the setting up of the PBB Murum pro tem committee at Uma Bawang in Apo Koyan yesterday.

The PBB supreme council member urged all party members to work hard and fight for PBB.

He pointed out that paddling a boat of whatever weight would be much easier if everyone paddled together.

“Don’t be divided into team A, B and C because too many teams in a party would only give space to opposition parties to break our fighting spirit,” he reminded.

The setting-up of the pro tem committee was managed by PBB executive secretary and PBB Belaga vice-chairman Awang Bujang Awang Antek as well as other members.

Awang Bujang said the PBB Murum pro tem committee members will hold their respective posts until the next party election in October.

Michael was elected PBB Murum chairman and subsequently resigned his post as PBB Belaga chief.

Completing the pro tem committee are deputy chairman Tuai Rumah Ambak Usah, vice-chairman Lawing Luat, deputy secretary Louis Lenjau, deputy treasurer Robert Legan, Youth chief Henry Kilah, deputy Youth chief Tirah @ Liwan Lawai and information chief Luhat Lihan.

The treasurer will be elected by those from Tubau River and Jelalong River, while the Women’s chief will be decided by the relevant division soon.

All the members present unanimously requested that the Murum seat be given to PBB Murum to represent Barisan Nasional in the next state election, but left the final decision to PBB’s top leaders. - Borneo Post
