Sibu YMCA to engage youths with more activities

YMCA Sibu vice-president Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau (seated, second left)
with (seated, from fourth left) Kamikubo, Vincent and Oda.
He said the youth movement hoped to recruit more young people to ensure that the community would be better served.
“We want to build empowerment on young people and bring the young people closer. One of the important agendas of YMCA is the empowerment of the youths and to attract them to join us,” he reiterated.
Lau was speaking on Thursday evening when receiving the visit of Hiroshima YMCA secretary-general Shoji Kamikubo and senior support member of the Hiroshima YMCA Global Community Center (GCC) Takeshi Oda to the YMCA Centre in Sie Poi Kieng Road.
Lau said YMCA Sibu had been looking on ways to better utilise the usage of YMCA Camp Resort.
“We have very good facilities and even good location, which is not very far from the town, but there are certain aspects that we are lacking,” he pointed out.
He said having connection with overseas YMCA had enabled them to receive assistance and suggestions on how to better utilise the camp resort. Last May, visitors from YMCA USA offered suggestions on how the resort could be improved and upgraded.
Kamikubo and Oda have been in Sibu since Wednesday, and have also visited the camp resort.
“They (Hiroshima YMCA) are very interested and keen to see how they can help us in improving our YMCA resort,” Lau enthused.
“YMCA Hiroshima has a long history and they are very well-established especially financially and they have carried out many community projects.”
Also present was YMCA Sibu vice president Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau. - Borneo Post.
