SDNU may get bigger share of shoplots

KUCHING: The seven blocks of four-storey shop houses at Rumah Dayak in Satok, developed by a joint venture company with Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) as a partner, have been completed.
The work started in 1997 on a piece of land owned by SDNU.
According to its president, Tan Sri William Mawan, who is also Minister of Social Development, SDNU might get a bigger

share of the shoplots because the developer owed them compensation for the delay in the project completion. The settlement of compensation would come in the form of more shares in the shoplots.

He said this in response to a question posed during an interview with Waifm talk show ‘Mansang Sarawak Mansang’ Tuesday evening.
Mawan also said a budget hotel might be built at one end of the Rumah Dayak shoplots by the same developer.
The rationale of building a budget hotel instead of an office tower, he said, was that an office tower would be overshadowed by the majestic Islamic Complex nearby. Also, the returns from the sale and rental of an office tower might not be much.
On SDNU’s new exco line-up, Mawan said he welcomed the inclusion of more women including the first-ever female secretary-general Dato Alice Jawan, an engineer and deputy manager of Sibu Water Board.
He said the line-up was a balanced mix of senior, women and youth members with high educational background and professional skills.
He was also pleased to announce that SDNU and its women’s wing in the form of Serakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) were now

working very closely together.

Mawan said SDNU and SIDS would be regularising their membership registers because by right SIDS members must be members of SDNU first otherwise all their past meetings and elections could be considered invalid.
The 59-year-old SDNU has gone through many ups and downs including some leadership crisis and even perceived as an anti-government movement.
With Mawan helming it since 2012, SDNU is now a more respectable organization with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem as two of its many sympathisers.- Borneo Post
