MIRI: Following its monthly meeting recently, Sarawak Dayak Association (Pedas) has decided not to be involved in the ‘Rally 719’ this July 19, organised by the ‘S4S Movement’.
Its president Capt Collin Imran said it had issued a directive to all its branch leaders across the state regarding the decision.
However, Pedas would not stop any members from joining the rally if they insisted on doing so in their own individual capacity.
“As an organisation, Pedas is not involved in the rally, and this is our decision.
“We want to focus on issues affecting the Dayaks and give our full commitment to help people in need. This is our main aim and objective,” he said when met yesterday.
Collin also said Pedas came out with the decision after the police chief here had said that the organiser’s request to stage the rally was not approved.
He, however, hoped that the authorities concerned, especially the police, would not treat the participants too harshly should they go ahead with the rally.-Borneo Post
