Jamilah: Be caring to the less fortunate

LUNDU: All layers of the community should pay attention to the plight of the less fortunate towards forming a more caring society. Chief Minister’s wife Datin Patinggi Datuk Jamilah Anu said this was every capable person’s responsibility regardless of race or religion.

“The spirit of being ready to help the less fortunate is one of the Islamic teachings, particularly in this holy month of Ramadan. However, this should not only be practised during Ramadan, but every single time.

“Therefore, we should be alert about those in our surrounding community that require help. Our developments mean nothing if the less fortunate are ignored by the community,” Jamilah said when attending the ‘Sentuhan Kasih Ramadan 2015’ programme held at the Lundu District Mosque here yesterday.

Jamilah also expressed her hope that all non-governmental organisations, government agencies and corporate bodies would continue to come together to foster friendship.

During the programme, Jamilah distributed hampers, rice and cash donations to a total of 100 less fortunate people consisting of community based rehabilitation (CBR) patients, students of Sekolah Khas Bumiputera, orphans, single mothers and senior citizens.

Later, Jamilah visited the home of 73-year-old heart patient Saadiah Drahman, presenting her with cash, hamper and dates in conjunction with the holy month of Ramadan.-Borneo Post
