Bau Bidayuh community leaders want Nansian to remain as Tasik Biru rep

BAU: Community leaders in Tasik Biru have insisted that their incumbent representative Assistant Minister of Community Services Datuk Peter Nansian be renominated come the next state election.

According to Bau Bidayuh community leader Pemanca Daniel Teho, the reason behind this is that they want an assemblyman who is also a full minister. He believes that with Nansian being renominated, it would get them closer to realising this wish.

“At least those in Serian get to be represented by a full minister (Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Richard Riot). So it is time for us in Bau to have a full minister to represent us as well.

“This can only happen if we don’t change our elected representatives too often because the moment we change our candidate, even if he wins, he would still be just an ordinary assemblyman.

“However if we retain our assemblyman who is already an assistant minister, at least he would have the chance to be promoted to full minister, especially if he already has a long experience,” he said when met after a work party to clear the historical site of Bung (Mount) Orad in Kampung Grogo near here yesterday.

Nevertheless, Nansian concurred that the matter was not for him to decide.

“I am leaving it to the people themselves to choose a leader whom they think could serve them well. It is not for me to decide.

“Having said this, it would be wiser if the people could choose someone with good track records rather than someone who has yet to prove himself.”

The work party yesterday, organised by Bau Community Leaders Club, involved residents from the surrounding villages. It was also attended by Opar assemblyman Ranum Mina, Bau District Officer Inting Nyami and former Tasik Biru assemblyman Dr Patau Rubis.-Borneo Post
