Repok likely to see new faces in the fray in coming state election

SARIKEI: Repok is set to witness a contest between new faces in the coming state election. This is so because neither the long-serving assemblyman from Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Datuk Teng Lung Chi who lost in the 10th state election nor the incumbent from DAP Dr Wong Hua Seh who ousted him (Teng) would be entered for a ‘rematch’.

Nothing has been heard of Teng, 71 since he failed to defend Repok for the eighth term to indicate his comeback. DAP on the other hand is likely to pick a new candidate to replace Dr Wong who has a health problem. As it is, both the BN and the opposition have yet to finalise their choice of candidates for Repok.

However, speculation is rife that DAP would shortlist woman lawyer Ung Siew Wei and a former teacher Wong Ching King to replace Dr Wong. The BN meanwhile seems to be facing a big problem in picking the candidate as two parties are fighting for it.

SUPP claimed that it had nominated more than one candidates including its central youth secretary-general who is also SUPP Sarikei Youth chief, Teng Ung Woo, while United People’s Party (UPP) president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh had recently nominated the party’s Sarikei branch chairman who is also Sarikei District Council chairman, Chan Phan Chan to win back Repok for the BN in the coming state polls.-Borneo Post
