SHAH ALAM: Pakatan Harapan member parties can no longer “agree to disagree” in policy disputes. All decisions would be reached by consensus, PKR secretary-general Rafizi Ramli said today.
“This is to avoid crossfire, misfire or friendly fire,” said Rafizi to cheers from Pakatan Harapan leaders present for the signing of the formal Pakatan Harapan agreement at the Shah Alam Convention Centre.
Policy disputes over Islamic law between the DAP and PAS led to the collapse of the former Paktan Rakyat alliance last year.
The new alliance, comprising PKR, DAP and the new Parti Amanah Negara, has decided on a formal agreement by which the alliance will be governed.
Explaining the principles of the agreement, Rafizi said all disputes or disagreements must be settled internally.
He said individuals in each component party must use respective party channels to raise their disputes or concerns about another party or its members.
Only if the party determines there is an issue, will it raise it with the other component parties.
He also said that the Pakatan Harapan agreement was a sign of political maturity.
“The agreement is not just for party members, it is also for the public to know and understand Pakatan Harapan’s guiding principles and how decisions should be made and disputes resolved,” he said.
