Groom rural youths to become ‘politically-smart’, PBB Telang Usan Youth told

MIRI: It is up to members of PBB Youth Telang Usan to disseminate the right information to the younger generation.

Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau said such exercise was vital in avoiding local youths from being easily influenced by irresponsible quarters.

“In this sense, the youths should play ‘smart politics’ for the socio-economic transformation to take place and in this respect, members of PBB Youth have a key role to play,” he said during a luncheon yesterday, hosted by the youth wing here in celebration of the New Year.

Dennis also highlighted the need for PBB Youth Telang Usan to be the government’s ‘eyes and ears’.

In this context, he said the youth wing must guide and direct the people in the rural areas such as Baram to be ‘politically smart’ so that they could be the agents of transformation and able to catch up with their urban counterparts.

“It is important for the people to be smart and see the happenings around them as well as those around the world.

“The politics of hatred will only cause them to go astray and lose out as far as development is concerned,” the assemblyman said.

Dennis said although the majority of the younger generation were not living and working in Telang Usan and the larger Baram area, they should strive to contribute ideas and input slated for bringing socio-economic transformation to their areas of origin.

“Work together with your respective villages and longhouse committees, as well as with government departments and agencies. Most importantly, however, be realistic in knowing that transformation does not come overnight. It does take time but the outcome is worth the wait,” he added. - Borneo Post
