MIRI: A total of 61 members of Parti Tenaga Rakyat Sarawak (Teras) from Rumah Mering in Sungai Biar, Bakong applied to join Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) on Dec 12.
One of them is Renggan @ Assan who represented the others in submitting their membership application forms to Datu Dr Penguang Manggil from SPDP.
According to Renggan, the reason for them to join SPDP was that they realised that SPDP was one of the component parties of Barisan Nasional (BN).
“Teras is not a component party of Barisan Nasional although the president is a minister; he is not in SPDP, PBB, PRS or SUPP,” he told The Borneo Post after handing over the membership forms at Mering longhouse.
Renggan defended their decision to join SPDP by saying that the candidate for Marudi state constituency from SPDP was better and more capable than the incumbent.
Penguang also received 10 membership forms from members of Teras in Bukit Song, Bakong, which he said was a good sign that the people had now realised the reality after thinking that Teras was part of BN.
Meanwhile, SPDP Marudi Women chief Teresa Gelang believed more members of Teras from the various longhouses in Bakong would jump over to SPDP.
“This is a boost to SPDP to be stronger and confident to win in the coming state election,” she said.-Borneo Post
