Bright 2016 ahead for Lambir constituency

MIRI: Lambir constituency will receive various development projects in the new year such as road access, clean water supply and village facility projects involving more than 30 villages and settlements in Bakam zone, Taman Tunku, Beraya, Peninjau, Bukit Kisi and Ulu Sibuti.

Lambir assemblyman Ripin Lamat said although up to 95 per cent of the constituency is located in rural areas, almost 80 per cent of Lambir villages have road access and electricity supply.

“There is still big room for improvement, especially to provide clean water supply to some areas which are yet to receive the facility, especially those far in the remote area under the constituency,” he said at a Christmas and New Year celebration on Tuesday hosted by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Lambir.

He said some projects will begin as early as next month.

“Among the projects are clean water supply, road upgrading, electricity supply, football field, community halls, futsal field, recreational centre, linking bridges in villages, new churches, new mosque and surau as well as sites for new longhouses,” he said.

Ripin pointed out that much has been achieved since 2011 thanks to close cooperation with Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang.

During the event, Ripin symbolically presented grants totalling over RM100,000 to churches, chapels, the Tukau activity centre and Tukau Dancing Club. On the double celebration, Ripin said it was not only attended by Christians, but also those of other religions.

“This is a great sign of mutual respect for one another where Muslims, Buddhists are able to attend the Christmas gathering without prejudice. This harmonious culture has been practised in Sarawak for ages,” he added.-Borneo Post
