Community halls for Taman Sukma, Taman Sourabaya and Demak Baru under 11MP

KUCHING: Samariang constituency will have three additional community halls each costing about RM500,000 under the 11th Malaysia Plan.

According to its assemblywoman Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, the projects, which are still in the planning stage, are earmarked for Taman Sukma, Taman Sourabaya Indah and Demak Baru.

“These halls will cater for the needs of residents in these respective areas and we hope that they can use the facility to its fullest potential after the completion,” said Hasidah.

She urged the Neighbourhood Committee or the Village Security and Development Committees (JKKK) in the Samariang constiuency to look into the management of community halls handed over to them.

“We want the halls to be well maintained and taken care of, and events or activities held at the place should also benefit the people at large as well,” she added.

On a related matter, Hasidah said plan was in the pipeline for the setting up of a new police station in her constituency and hoped that it would materialise soon.

“The planned location is in Demak and it will further strenghten the police presence for Samariang and Petra Jaya as a whole,” she said.

Hasidah was speaking to reporters after attending a prize presentation ceremony of the Kampung Tunku Mini Carnival at its community hall yesterday.

On the event, Hasidah praised the JKKK of Kampung Tunku for being active in community events as manifested by the carnival which was participated by residents from all walks of life.

“Despite the situation here where most are from the middle income level and working, the community spirit can be seen and we can see the harmony among the people,” said Sharifah Hasidah who is also a political secretary to the chief minister.

More than 10 programmes were held in conjunction with the carnival such as cooking contest, walkathon, karaoke and street soccer. - Borneo Post
