Police will arrest the blogger known as Papagomo, among others, for publishing false information that led to a brawl at the Low Yat Plaza yesterday.
"We will arrest him unless he surrenders," said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today. "There are others but if we mention their names, they will run. But Papagomo, we are telling him that we will arrest him."
Khalid said that the blogger, whose real name is Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, had put up false information about what had actually happened in Low Yat on Saturday.
"The incident was, in fact, a theft but an accomplice who was freed went back and told stories about the incident, claiming that he was cheated.
"This is a lie and many on social media made it worse by spreading false information and stories “I think everyone knows that among them are Papagomo and several others, and I have given a directive that they be arrested," Khalid told reporters after a walkabout at Low Yat Plaza in Kuala Lumpur this evening.
Stressing that this particular case was a theft, Khalid denied that the two suspects were cheated by the mobile phone shop as rumoured.
"Some reports said that the suspect lodged a report with the police alleging he was cheated. But we have checked, this is not true.” Khalid also warned anyone else planning to gather in front of Low Yat Plaza tonight against doing so or be prepared to face action if they cause any disturbances.
"We will monitor this. And we advise those who want to have a gathering this evening with the purpose of committing offences, we will take stern action against them."
So far, 19 people, including the two who committed the theft, have been detained to facilitate investigations. –The Malaysian Insider
