Dr Hazland sure of re-nomination in coming election

KUCHING: Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni is confident that he will be re-nominated as candidate in the coming state election.

He said this to refute rumours circulating around stating otherwise.

“With all the development I have brought to the area (Demak Laut) in four years, I definitely consider myself as a winnable candidate,” Dr Hazland said after the launch of the pre-Syawal special sale at Pasar Tani, Demak Laut here yesterday.

According to him, one of the biggest projects brought by him to the constituency is a bridge that will connect Kampung Bako which is home to around 8,000 residents to Kuching mainland.

“It’s almost there,” revealed Dr Hazland.

“It has been approved and we are waiting for the announcement which will be made by the Chief Minister.”

He said the state project to be launched before the end of the year would involve a 200-metre long bridge linked by a two-km and a three-km road on both ends.

“With that bridge, a lot of transformation will come to Kampung Bako and I think the kampung deserves it since it has been a BN stronghold for so long.”

Apart from the bridge, he claimed he had also brought in other major projects such as the 1,000 low cost units in Muara Tebas, a RM30-million fisheries depot at Tanjung Bako and new roads costing RM70 million linking Tanjung Bako.

“In the next few weeks (after Raya), we will be launching three 10-storey transit apartments in Tabuan Melayu,” he added.

He also revealed plans for RM7.5-million worth of smaller scale projects for the village at Sg Pinang which was lacking in infrastructure.

Meanwhile, during the pre-Syawal special event which he officiated, Dr Hazland gave out goodie bags to the 43 vendors present there.

The special event which is aimed to promote Pasar Tani and attract more customers features special and lower prices for all the fresh produce and food sold by the vendors there.

“Pasar Tani has been under Fama (Federal Agriculture and Marketing Authority) for five years now and this is the first time we organised this pre-Syawal sale here which will be ongoing for three days,” said Dr Hazland.
