DBKU shuts down eight table video game outlets

KUCHING: Eight outlets operating ‘table video games’ have been ordered to shut down by Kuching City North Commission (DBKU) following a recent enforcement operation.

A statement by DBKU yesterday stated three of the outlets were at Satok, two at Rubber Road, and one each at Jalan Merdeka, Jalan Sultan Tengah and Damai Central.

It explained the operation was conducted following public complaints that these outlets were conducting gambling activities.

“However, no gambling activity was detected during the enforcement. Nonetheless, the eight outlets were found to operate without valid license from DBKU.

“Therefore, these outlets were issued shutdown notices for offences under Section 5-1(a) and (b) of the Entertainment Ordinance,” stated the statement.

DBKU welcomes any information and public tip-off on ‘table video games’ outlets holding suspicious activities.

“DBKU does not support any activities which encourage gambling in the Kuching City North area. We are also ready to cooperate and assist the police in eradicating such activities.

“We advise parents to monitor the activities of their children who may enter these outlets,” it said.

On another matter, DBKU called on the public to check the validity of information and photos that go viral on social media such as Facebook and Twitter before sharing them with others.-Borneo Post
