MIRI: Despite his party having severed ties with former PR ally PAS, DAP Sarawak secretary Alan Ling Sie Kiong is now actively on the ground to send out Raya goodies to Muslim supporters and families here.
He, however, said distributing the goodies was just one of his annual outreach programmes during the holy month of Ramadan.
“It is not only to show care to my Muslim comrades but as part of my door-to-door visit to greet Muslim families selected to receive the Raya goodies ‘Selamat Hari Raya’ in advance,” he said.
Ling, who is also Piasau assemblyman and branch chairman, said it was also a way of thanking them for accepting and supporting him as an elected representative.
According to him, there had been greater awareness and acceptance of the party among the Malay community in his constituency.
“Compared to many years back, the Malays in my constituency and in Miri are more aware of our presence and are more matured by recognising and inviting opposition YBs to various programmes like wedding, open house and other activities.”
Ling said it had been a practice for him and his party members to visit Ramadan bazaars every year to greet the traders and people who patronise the bazaars.-Borneo Post
