KUCHING: Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Samarahan branch chairman Stanley Belayong Pok contributed RM3,000 cash to the SDNU Educational Trust Fund here on Thursday.
The sum would make up the total of RM130,000 and it was part of the pledges from SDNU and Serakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) branches. The pledges were made by organisations branches during the last SDNU general assembly on May 17 at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK).
When the Education Trust Fund was proposed, delegates were quick to respond by making pledges through their respective branches. There were also pledges from individuals like SDNU president Tan Sri William Mawan, his deputy Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi, and entrepreneur Dr Elli Luhat.
On hand to receive the contribution at Jalan Bormill were SDNU treasurer general Christopher Gira, SDNU Youth chief-designate Churchill Edward Drem, and executive secretary Spencer Birai.
Belayong also proposed that SDNU set up a Welfare Fund in the future.
“Welfare assistance has been provided to several deserving recipients all this while but it was done only on an ad hoc basis. There is a need now to draw up uniformed criteria for eligible applicants and to set up a sub-committee to oversee the distribution of the proposed welfare fund,” Belayong said. -Borneo Post.
