KUCHING: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi arrived here last night for a one-day working visit to the state.
Among those welcoming him at Kuching International Airport VIP lounge were Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem and his deputy Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu. Several state cabinet ministers, assistant ministers and Deputy State Secretary Datu Ose Murang were also present.
Upon arrival, Zahid was led by Adenan to the media room where he was presented with a surprise birthday cake. He was visibly touched when all who were present sang him the birthday song.
Zahid will be visiting the Sarawak River Barrage today. He will be accompanied by Infrastructure Development and Communications Minister Dato Sri Michael Manyin.
After that, he will go to Wisma Bapa Malaysia where he will be received by Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah and given a briefing on floods in the state. Zahid will have lunch with Adenan before leaving for Kuala Lumpur in the afternoon.
