SIBU: United People’s Party (UPP) president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh described the meeting between his party and Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem on Dec 17 as “very positive”.
As such, he hoped voters would give their full support to him in Bawang Assan state constituency and appealed to voters in other constituencies to vote for UPP candidates in the next state election.
This, he said, was to allow them to bring in more development in terms of infrastructure, basic amenities, education and job opportunities.
He said this when officiating at the presentation of minor rural project grants totalling RM301,600 to 100 longhouses in Bawang Assan here yesterday.
When met by reporters later, the Second Finance Minister and Minister Local Government and Community Development said the meeting with the chief minister was “very cordial and positive”.
However, he refused to disclose why he described it that way when pressed by reporters.
Wong was also tight-lipped when asked if the meeting touched on seat allocation for the party.
“I leave it to the chief minister to make the announcement,” he said.
When asked to comment on Sarawak United People’s Party’s (SUPP) demand that he retire from politics as a pre-condition to negotiations between the two parties, Wong said he had nothing to say about that.
“My party all over the state has spoken. There is no need for me to say anything.
“I leave it to the chief minister to decide,” he said.
Earlier in his speech at the function, Wong said 91 applicants from Bawang Assan had been selected for UPP Education Trust Fund.
He said the applicants were the first batch of recipients of the fund and they will receive the assistance next month.
“The fund totalling RM33 million sponsored by corporate bodies will be managed in a transparent manner to help Sarawak students regardless of race and religion to further their studies to higher level.
“Application forms are available at all UPP branches,” he said.-Borneo Post
