Tiong expresses concern over road project delay

BINTULU: The construction of Tun Openg Road linking the town centre to Kidurong and Samalaju industrial area here is behind schedule.

The construction of the road began on October 17 2013 and was slated to be completed by June 16 this year but now it is one month behind schedule.

The delay is causing much inconvenience to commuters here as the road is an alternative route to the industrial areas to the Kidurong road which is always congested during peak hours.

Upset by the daily traffic jams along Kidurong road several road users brought their predicament to Bintulu MP Dato‘ Seri Tiong King Sing recently who responded by going to the construction site to see the progress of the construction.

Speaking to reporters after the site visit, Tiong urged the relevant authorities to take necessary actions on the contractor who has failed to meet the deadline for the completion of the road

“I received calls from public asking about when the road could be open for public, as they were very concerned about the current status,” he said.

Tiong said that during his visit to the site someone pointed out to him that in an apparent attempt to fool the public someone pasted strips of paper over the completion date of the project printed on the signboard.

“I was told that someone used white paper and tape to seal the delivery date of the project.”

The Bintulu MP advised whoever tried to conceal the completion date of the project not to use such cheap tricks to fool the people as it would only make matters worse.

He urged the relevant authorities to supervise the construction more closely to ensure the contractor finish the project as soon as possible.-Borneo Post
