July 22 significant to Sarawak in many ways, says Naroden

KUCHING: Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister’s Office (Bumiputera Entrepreneur Development) Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais said July 22 is a very significant date for the state in many ways.

He said it was a historical date because that was the day the state started her political and development evolution till the present time.

Thus, he added, the people must remember that without this evolution, the state would not be able to have the peace, stability and development enjoyed today.

“It is very important that the people in the state be thankful to our past leaders who have sacrificed and contributed immensely to free Sarawak from British rule on July 22, 1963, and helped in the formation of Malaysia three months later,” he said in his WhatsApp message yesterday.

Among the leaders was Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Taib Mahmud, who helped to determine the future of the state.

He described Taib as a ‘Living History of Historical Sarawak’.

Naroden, who is also Assistant Minister of Resource Planning, said Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem was right in agreeing with the sentiments raised by the S4S movement for the state to be given equal treatment.

He said the state government was also fighting for the rights of the people in many areas, including getting more allocations from the federal government.

“This is also our (state government) fight and direction,” said Naroden, who was quick to point out that he was not implying that the state secede from Malaysia.

“I grossly don’t agree to that (secession).” He was also all for both the national and state anthems to be played during official functions.-Borneo Post
