Manyin to give more funds for capacity building

SERIAN: Tebedu assemblyman Dato Sri Michael Manyin Jawong yesterday pledged to allocate more funds to programmes and activities that contribute to capacity building in the constituency.

He said one of his focus areas if elected to represent Tebedu again for another five years is on human capital development.

“We already have the basic infrastructure in Tebedu such as roads, electricity, water and telecommunication service. What is missing is the human factor.

“If elected for the next five years during election next month, I will give more focus to human development. I will come up with financial support,” he said when launching the Minda Bestari transformation programme at Balu Tayung Langui, Kampung Pichin near here yesterday.

Manyin, who is also Infrastructure Development and Communications Minister, said he welcomed programmes such as Minda Bestari which aimed at improving Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR) results and performance in Tebedu constituency.

He hoped that through improvement in school results, Serian district as a whole can improve its ranking among the 31 districts in Sarawak.

“Bau district is among the Top 5. Padawan district is among the Top 10. But Serian district is placed 26th among the 31 districts. I hope to see improvement in this when results come out end of this year,” he said. He also pledged to reward each primary school with RM10,000 if it achieves average grade of 1.3 in this year’s UPSR.

Manyin then presented incentives to students from Tebedu constituency who scored 5As in last year’s UPSR.

Political secretary to the chief minister John David Nyauh, Serian Resident Dahim Nadot and Serian district education officer Yunus Apok were present.-BORNEO POST
