KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem was tight-lipped about the outcome of the meeting he held with United People’s Party (UPP) at Wisma Bapa Malaysia yesterday.
Not only that, he also instructed UPP leaders not to disclose what transpired in the meeting to the press.
“I cannot give you the details of the meeting because we can’t negotiate in public,” said Adenan when met by the media after the meeting.
He only disclosed that the meeting was still on-going but pointed out that his final decision would be one that would be fair to both UPP and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).
Respecting Adenan’s instruction, 33 UPP central working committee (CWC) members from across the state who attended the meeting also kept mum on what went on during the discussion despite reporters’ efforts to press for some answers.
UPP secretary-general George Lo said they were instructed by the chief minister not to reveal anything.
“We were asked not to disclose whatever happened in the meeting. So we can’t disclose. The only thing we can say about UPP is that UPP will leave the decision to the chief minister,” said Lo.
When pressed if any decision was made in the meeting, Lo avoided the question.
“We leave it to the decision of CM (Chief Minister) and I believe CM will make the necessary announcement in due course.”
The group led by its president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh were seen relieved and were all smiling, apparently satisfied with what transpired during the discussion.
“We are happy with the discussion that we had. It was a good discussion but we cannot disclose the content of the discussion.”
When pressed further, Lo said various topics were discussed including the issue of seat allocation.-Borneo Post
