Chong should go to Penang: Abdullah

If he wants to see failures and unfulfilled promises, he should go to Penang, a DAP government which is led by a non-Penang person.

KUCHING: Most if not all Sarawakians agree that Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem has Sarawakians interest at heart, said state Barisan Nasional (BN) Backbenchers Club chairman Abdullah Saidol.

Even DAP leaders including its national advisor Lim Kit Siang and state leaders admitted that Adenan’s increasing popularity is their biggest challenge in the run-up to the coming state election, he added.

“So, it is very much anticipated that the opposition especially DAP will very much target their political attack aggressively against CM Adenan. We all have heard DAP making various allegations in trying very hard to discredit and belittle YAB CM Adenan’s initiatives and success,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

The Semop assemblyman said within two years after taking over the helm of Sarawak, Adenan had executed no less than 50 significant actions and major policies that benefit the state.

“From day one, Adenan is so passionate about rural development and he introduced the Rural Transformation Programme where he requested twice for extra funding of no less than RM500 million in two Budget Sittings – in 2014 and also in 2015.
At the same time, Adenan is also loud and bloody serious about all efforts on the issues of devolution and empowerment with the federal government,” he stressed.

“If people think that Adenan’s initiative regarding revisiting and reviewing Sarawak’s administrative and constitutional rights is just a political rhetoric than I dare say you are not a true Sarawakian. All Sarawakians must be seen to fully support Adenan on this particular agenda. And you know what to do when the election comes,” he added.

Abdullah pointed out that Adenan was not alone in his struggle and frequently reminded them to work harder.

“Adenan had been frequently reminding us to work harder on the ground to strengthen our base, not merely in terms of politics but most importantly in securing people’s confidence by way of showing high level of enthusiasm to serve and the bravery to voice out the people’s needs.”

Abdullah also said allegations by the opposition that supporting Adenan was like supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Umno showed that they were desperate and had run out of ideas.

He recalled that during the recent State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting, DAP lawmakers challenged Adenan to state his stand on Umno not coming to Sarawak.

“He (Adenan) responded with a suggestion that the august house members immediately table a Bill to disallow not only Umno but also all other West Malaysian-based political parties from operating in the state but DAP elected representatives were dumbfounded and did not dare to answer his proposal.”

He also said Adenan made it clear that the state government would continue to support Najib because he is the prime minister but would review its stand if Najib is found guilty of wrongdoing.

“Majority of the opposition are made up of experienced practising lawyers, surely they are very much aware of the very basic principle of law that a person is deemed innocent until found guilty and convicted,” said Abdullah.

He said the next state election is all about whom to choose to lead and administer the state government.

”Things happening in West Malaysia have nothing to do with us in Sarawak.

“We will decide our faith and we will do it our way.

“Perhaps it’s not too much for me to say – let us all Sarawakians show our fellow Malaysians in Semenanjung how we Sarawakians maintain our political stability and racial harmony,” he stressed.

On Tuesday, Kota Sentosa assemblyman Chong Chieng Jen, who is also state DAP chief, again alleged that Adenan had failed to secure oil royalty from the federal government and suggested that since oil price was low it would be the best time to pressure the federal government.

To this, Abdullah said: “That is the most ridiculous statement by YB Chong who is also the vice-chairman of DAP National. If he wants to see failures and unfulfilled promises, he should go to Penang, a DAP government which is led by a non-Penang person.

“Negotiation on the oil royalty and administrative devolution are no more at the preliminary stage and it is done with delicate diplomatic and mutual approach where national interest must also be acknowledged. It’s nothing like the messy and hostile dealing amongst the parties in Pakatan Rakyat.

“By now all of us Sarawakians should be able to agree that Adenan Satem is the man who has Sarawak in his soul and the people in his heart. So let’s all give him the biggest mandate that Sarawak ever delivers,” Abdullah said.-Borneo Post
